Airframe Stress Analysis & Sizing

Airframe Stress Analysis & Sizing

Airframe Stress Analysis & Sizing
By Michael Niu
* Publisher: Adaso Adastra Engineering Center
* Number Of Pages: 806
* Publication Date: 1998-06
* ISBN-10 / ASIN: 9627128082
* ISBN-13 / EAN: 9789627128083

Book is a solid reference, although many corrections need to be made. Been familiar with book for several years finally broke down and bought my own copy.

Michael Niu has once again produced a very reasonable book. This book is destined to become a standard reference and will complement the other classic in the industry very well (Bruhn's Analysis and Design of Flight Vehicle Structures). The book covers just about most topics required to perform effective practical stress analysis. Again as with Bruhn this is a bit of a cookbook, but in many instances that's what is required to design practical aerospace structures. Some of the material is a repeat of what's available in Bruhn; however, there is plenty of additional material which makes this book worth having. The big drawback of this book is that there are a lot of mistakes in the formulas, etc. This was likely a result of trying to rush the book to print. I bought the 1st edition and will likely have to wait until the 3rd or 4th edition before using this as a real reference. As pointed out in the other reviews, most of the material in this book needs to be cross referenced with other books of company manuals before being used. Having said this the book can still be very useful and one needs to remember that practical stress analysis books are scarce and so Niu is to be congratulated just for trying to put something down on paper.

Analysis and Design of Flight Vehicle Structures

Analysis and Design of Flight Vehicle Structures

Analysis and Design of Flight Vehicle Structures
By E. F. Bruhn
* Publisher: Jacobs Pub
* Number Of Pages: 650
* Publication Date: 1973-06
* ISBN-10 / ASIN: 0961523409
* ISBN-13 / EAN: 9780961523404

This is a well written book that aeronautical engineers and particularly those engaged in a serious study of aircraft structures design and analysis will find useful, helpful and handy. The author reinforced his message with numerous examples which should help the reader to grasp the fundamental aircraft design ideas and principles. Although the book has been around for some time (I first used it at university as a recommended text in aircraft design over 25 years ago), the theory and concepts are still very much relevant and applicable today.

For the beginner and expert alike, this book serves as a comprehensive reference on aircraft structural design concepts. I recommend that you buy it, read it and keep it on the shelf where you can easily access it and refer to it for critical insights into aircraft structural design.

(Unified Facilities Guide Specifications (UFGS

(Unified Facilities Guide Specifications (UFGS

Updated October 11, 2007

As of July 2005, updated UFGS will be posted quarterly in January, April, July and October.

Unified Facilities Guide Specifications (UFGS) are a joint effort of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE), the Naval Facilities Engineering Command (NAVFAC), the Air Force Civil Engineer Support Agency (AFCESA) and the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA). UFGS are for use in specifying construction for the military services.

UFGS are published only in electronic format and are intended to be used with SpecsIntact software. SpecsIntact versions 4.2.0.782 and above fully support UFGS in both MasterFormat 1995™ and MasterFormat 2004™, so you may use it simultaneously for older MasterFormat 1995 projects as well as new ones using MasterFormat 2004. Earlier SpecsIntact versions are not compatible with any UFGS Master from April 2006 and beyond.

UFGS that have been unified for use by all participating agencies have a level 3 or level 4 MasterFormat™ number. UFGS that are agency-specific have a fifth level number indicating it as an agency specific specification. A specification that has a fifth level number "10" indicates USACE, a "14" indicates USACE/NASA, a "20" indicates NAVFAC, a "30" indicates AFCESA, and a "40" indicates NASA. Preparing agencies are indicated in the UFGS header of each specification. Users of UFGS should first consider a unified UFGS if one is available, next a UFGS identified as specific to their agency and lastly a UFGS identified as specific to another agency
